A washer that won't drain or leaks in a Toronto condo or basement can damage flooring and the unit below. We check the pump, filter, hoses and door gasket and fix the real cause, so the problem doesn't come back.
Common Maytag washer problems we fix in Toronto
We repair Maytag front-load, top-load and apartment-size (compact) washers in houses, condos and rental units across Toronto. These are the problems we see most often:
A blocked pump filter, a clogged drain hose or a failed drain pump. Sand, coins and pet hair are common culprits.
Often caused by a drain problem, an unbalanced load, a worn drive belt or motor brushes, or a faulty door lock.
A torn or dirty door gasket, a loose hose, a cracked pump housing or a leaking dispenser.
Worn drum bearings, broken shock absorbers or something trapped between the drum and the tub.
A faulty door lock switch or a drain problem keeping water in the drum.
Mould in the door gasket, the dispenser or the pump filter. Regular cleaning and leaving the door open help a lot.
Maytag apartment-size washer not draining: sand-damaged drain pump replaced in Downtown Toronto
The problem: This Maytag apartment-size (compact) front-load washer in Downtown Toronto stopped draining and left water in the drum.
The cause: The owner had washed the dog's carpet in it. The carpet was full of sand, and the sand went down into the drain pump and damaged it.
What we did:
- Took the front panel off to reach the drain pump
- Removed the sand-damaged drain pump
- Cleaned out the sand that was still trapped in the tub, so it wouldn't damage the new pump
- Cleaned the door gasket
- Installed a new drain pump
- Ran the washer through a full test: it fills, washes, drains and spins perfectly
Result: The washer is working perfectly again, and the homeowner is happy.
Tip: Shake out pet beds, mats and rugs outside before washing them, or use a laundry bag. Sand, gravel and pet hair go straight to the drain pump. If your washer starts draining slowly or makes a grinding sound while draining, clean the pump filter before the pump gets damaged.

Octopus Royal uses in-house technicians only - no subcontractors, no commission-based pressure, and no unnecessary upselling.
We diagnose washer leaks, drain problems, and water-related failures before they damage flooring, cabinets, or nearby kitchen finishes.
Quick checks before you call
- Clean the drain pump filter (usually behind a small door at the bottom front). Put a shallow tray and towels down first.
- Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe.
- Shake out pet beds, mats and rugs outside before washing them, and wash them in a laundry bag.
- Use HE detergent only, and leave the door open after washing so the gasket can dry.
If the washer still won't drain, hums without pumping or makes a grinding noise, stop using it and call us. Running it with a damaged pump can make the repair bigger.
Maytag washer repair FAQ

Yes. We repair Maytag full-size and apartment-size washers, including compact front-loaders in condos and basement units.
Why is my Maytag washer not draining?
