Samsung dishwasher not draining and not cleaning: drain pump destroyed by broken glass
The problem: This Samsung dishwasher in Downtown Toronto was not draining, and the dishes were coming out dirty.
The cause: Broken glass had got into the sump. It packed the filter screen around the grinder and went into the drain pump, where it ground the pump's impeller down.
What we did:
- Took out the grinder and its blades
- Cleaned the whole sump and vacuumed out the glass and grit
- Pulled the dishwasher out to reach the drain pump
- Replaced the damaged drain pump with a new one
- Put it back together and ran a full test cycle
Result: The dishwasher drains and washes properly again, and the customer is happy.
Tip: If a glass breaks inside the dishwasher, pick out every piece you can see and check the filter before the next wash. Small pieces go straight to the grinder and the drain pump.

- If a glass breaks inside, remove every piece and check the filter before the next wash.

Samsung dishwasher repair FAQ
Why is my Samsung dishwasher not draining?
Usually a clogged filter or sump, a kinked hose or a failed drain pump. On the Toronto job above, broken glass had ground the pump impeller down, so we cleaned the sump and replaced the pump.
Can broken glass damage a dishwasher?
Yes. Small pieces can clog the filter and grinder and wear out the drain pump impeller, which stops the dishwasher from draining.
Is it worth repairing a Samsung dishwasher?
In most cases, yes. If a repair would cost close to a new dishwasher, we tell you honestly before any work starts.
Do you give a quote before starting the repair?
Yes. We diagnose the problem first and give you the price before we start. The $85 service call is waived when you go ahead with the repair.
Is the repair covered by a warranty?
