Common Problems

Common Whirlpool washer problems we fix in Toronto

We repair Whirlpool front-load (Duet) and top-load washers in Toronto houses, condos and rental units. These are the problems we see most often:

F9 E1 / slow draining

A long drain time. Usually a clogged drain filter, a kinked or blocked hose, or a failing drain pump.

Not spinning or clothes too wet

Often a drain problem, an unbalanced load, a worn belt or a door lock fault.

Leaking

A torn door boot, a loose hose, a cracked pump housing or a leaking dispenser.

Too many suds (SUD)

Regular detergent in an HE washer, or soap build-up from overdosing.

Loud noise or shaking

Worn drum bearings, shock absorbers, or something caught in the drum or the pump.

Bad smell

Mould in the door gasket, the dispenser or the drain filter.

Whirlpool Duet washer F9 E1: drain filter full of surprises in Downtown Toronto

The problem: This Whirlpool Duet front-load washer in Downtown Toronto kept stopping with the F9 E1 error code (long drain time), and the customer noticed it was draining slowly.

The cause: The drain filter was packed. We found lint, kids' hair clips, unicorn stickers and toys, coins and even a jewel blocking the water.

What we did:

  • Opened the access panel at the bottom front
  • Removed the drain filter and cleared everything out of it
  • Checked the pump and the drain path
  • Ran the washer through a full test: it fills, washes, drains and spins normally

Result: The washer drains fast again, the F9 E1 code is gone, and the customer is happy.

Tip: Check pockets before washing, especially kids' clothes, and clean the drain filter every few months. Hair clips and coins can also crack the pump if they get past the filter.

Washer leak protection

We diagnose washer leaks, drain problems, and water-related failures before they damage flooring, cabinets, or nearby kitchen finishes.

Quick Checks

Quick checks before you call

  • Check all pockets before washing, especially kids' clothes.
  • Clean the drain filter every few months (put a shallow tray and towels down first).
  • Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe.
  • Use HE detergent only, and leave the door open after washing so the gasket can dry.

If the washer still shows F9 E1 after you clean the filter, or hums without draining, call us. The pump or the hose may be blocked further down.

FAQ

Whirlpool washer repair FAQ

What does F9 E1 mean on a Whirlpool washer?

It means the washer took too long to drain. On the Toronto job above, the drain filter was packed with lint, hair clips, stickers and coins. Clearing it fixed the problem.

Can I clean the drain filter myself?

Yes, on most front-load models the filter is behind a small door at the bottom front. Put towels and a shallow tray down first, because water will come out.

Is it worth repairing a Whirlpool washer?

In most cases, yes. If a repair would cost close to a new washer, we tell you honestly before any work starts.

Do you give a quote before starting the repair?

Yes. We diagnose the problem first and give you the price before we start. The $85 service call is waived when you go ahead with the repair.

Is the repair covered by a warranty?

Yes. Our repairs come with a 1-year parts and labour warranty.
