Dryer Not Heating: repair for Toronto homes and condos
We fix dryers that stop heating, take too long, make noise, overheat, smell hot or will not start. Common work includes thermal fuses, heating elements, thermostats, belts, rollers and pulleys, motors, control boards, and cleaning the vent all the way to the wall.
Most dryer faults start with airflow, so we check the vent, the lint housing and the blower on every call and fix the cause, not just the symptom.
What causes it
A dryer that spins but never gets warm is the most common dryer call we get in Toronto. These are the causes we find, roughly in order:
The number one cause. A blocked vent makes the dryer overheat until the one-time fuse opens. The dryer still tumbles, but there is no heat. The fuse is cheap; fixing why it blew is the real job.
The coil inside the heater box breaks or shorts to the frame. Common on Samsung, LG and Whirlpool dryers after years of use, and faster when lint restricts airflow.
Heater terminals and connectors overheat, blacken and lose contact. We saw this on a Samsung dryer in Toronto: the connector and wiring had to be rebuilt.
These switch the heater on and off. When one fails open, the heater never comes on; when one sticks, the dryer overheats.
A gas dryer that clicks but never lights, or lights and goes out, usually needs one of these three parts.
An electric dryer can run on 120 V (the motor turns) with no heat if a breaker or outlet leg has failed. Worth a check before anything else.

We find why a dryer is cold, slow, loud or hot before it costs you a new one.
Quick checks before you call
- Check the breaker panel: a dryer breaker is a double breaker, and one half can trip on its own.
- Pull the lint filter and look down the housing with a flashlight; if it is packed, the vent is probably blocked too.
- Feel the vent hose behind the dryer: if it is crushed or kinked, that is likely why the fuse blew.
- Run a timed dry on high for 5 minutes and feel the drum: slightly warm means a weak element or thermostat; stone cold means fuse, element or power.
Do not keep running a dryer with a blocked vent. If the fuse blew once, the next part to go is the element, or worse. Call or text (647) 286-1327 and we will find the cause, not just the symptom.
Dryer Not Heating in Toronto: FAQ
Why does my dryer run but not heat?
Most often a blown thermal fuse, a failed heating element, or burnt heater wiring. The fuse blows because airflow is restricted, so we always check the vent, the lint housing and the blower as well.
Can I just replace the thermal fuse myself?
You can, but if the vent is still blocked it will blow again within weeks. On our Etobicoke job the real cause was a long, crushed vent hose full of water; the new fuse is only safe because the venting was fixed.
How much does a dryer not heating repair cost in Toronto?
It depends on the part: a fuse, an element, a thermostat or wiring are very different jobs. Our $85 service call covers the diagnosis, you get the full quote before any work, and the $85 is waived if you go ahead.
Is it worth repairing a dryer that stopped heating?
Usually yes. Heat parts are among the least expensive repairs on a dryer, and the rest of the machine is often fine. If the drum, motor or control board are also failing, we tell you honestly.
Do you repair gas dryers that do not heat?
Yes. Igniters, gas valve coils and flame sensors are routine repairs. We also check the venting, because a gas dryer with a blocked vent is a carbon monoxide risk.
