Dryer vent cleaning for Toronto and GTA homes and condos

We clean blocked dryer vents that make the dryer take forever, run too hot or stop heating. The work includes the lint filter housing, the blower compartment, the exhaust port, the vent hose and the vent in the wall or ceiling. If the hose is too long or crushed, we replace it with a short one.

A blocked vent makes the dryer work harder and can blow its thermal fuse. We find where the air is getting stuck and clear it, so the problem doesn't come back.

Common Problems

Signs your dryer vent is blocked

A blocked dryer vent slows the dryer down and can stop it heating. Watch for these signs:

Dryer takes forever to dry

Loads that used to take one cycle now need two or three. On our Etobicoke condo job, the ceiling vent screen was packed solid with lint.

Dryer runs but no heat

A blocked vent makes the dryer overheat until the thermal fuse blows. Then it tumbles but stays cold.

Water or wet lint in the hose

Moist air that cannot get out condenses in the hose. On our Whirlpool job, dirty water poured out when we disconnected it.

Long, kinked or crushed hose

A hose that is too long, or squeezed against the wall when the dryer is pushed back, chokes the airflow.

Dryer and clothes very hot

Hot, damp air stays trapped in the dryer instead of going out through the vent.

Lint around the vent or dryer

Lint building up around the lint filter, the back of the dryer or the vent opening.

LG dryer taking too long to dry: condo vent screen packed with lint in Etobicoke

The problem: The owner of this LG front-load dryer (stacked on an LG washer in a condo laundry closet in Etobicoke) told us it was taking a very long time to dry a load.

The cause: Lint. In this condo the dryer vents into a box in the ceiling with a screen in it. That screen was packed solid with lint, so the hot, damp air could not get out. The dryer's own lint filter housing and blower compartment had lint built up too.

What we did:

  • Took down the ceiling vent cover and pulled out the screen, which was packed with lint
  • Cleaned the vent screen and the vent box
  • Cleaned the dryer's lint filter housing
  • Cleaned the blower compartment
  • Put the screen and the vent cover back and ran the dryer

Result: Luckily, no damage to the dryer. After the cleaning, the customer told us there was a huge difference in drying time.

Tip: Clean the lint filter after every load, and the ceiling vent screen every 3 to 6 months.

From our technician: In many condos the dryer does not vent straight outside. It vents into a box in the ceiling with a screen, like this one. Clean that screen every 3 to 6 months, and the lint filter after every load. If your dryer suddenly takes much longer to dry, check the screen first: on this job it was packed solid, and cleaning it made a huge difference.

Whirlpool dryer not heating: blown thermal fuse caused by a crushed, water-filled vent hose in Etobicoke

The problem: This Whirlpool dryer in Etobicoke was running but not heating.

The cause: A bad installation. The vent hose behind the dryer was far too long, and it was squeezed, kinked and crushed against the wall. The air could not get out, so the hose blocked up completely and filled with water from condensation (when we disconnected it, dirty water and lint poured onto the floor). With no airflow, the dryer overheated and the thermal fuse blew. We confirmed it with a multimeter: the fuse was open.

What we did:

  • Tested the thermal fuse with a multimeter: blown (open circuit)
  • Replaced the thermal fuse
  • Removed the long, crushed vent hose
  • Cleaned the vent pipe inside the wall, which was packed with lint
  • Cleaned the dryer's exhaust port, the lint filter housing and the blower compartment
  • Installed a new, short foil vent hose with no kinks
  • Ran the dryer and checked the heat and the airflow

Result: The dryer heats again, and the air now flows freely out of the vent, so the new fuse is protected.

Tip: Keep the dryer vent hose short and straight, with no kinks or crushed spots. When you push the dryer back, make sure the hose is not squeezed against the wall.

From our technician: A blown thermal fuse is just the symptom. If you only replace the fuse and leave the setup as it is, the new fuse will blow again. That is why, when a dryer blows its fuse, we fix the cause and not just the symptom: we check and correct the venting, keep the hose short and straight, and clean the vent all the way to the wall.

Quick checks before you call

FAQ

Dryer vent cleaning FAQ

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Clean the lint filter after every load. In condos where the dryer vents into a ceiling box with a screen, clean that screen every 3 to 6 months. Have the hose, the vent and the inside of the dryer cleaned when drying starts taking longer.

Why is my dryer taking so long to dry?

Very often it is lint blocking the airflow: a packed lint filter housing, a clogged vent screen, or a long, crushed vent hose. On our Etobicoke condo job, cleaning the ceiling vent screen made a huge difference in drying time.

Why did my dryer stop heating?

One common cause is a blown thermal fuse. A blocked vent makes the dryer overheat and the fuse blows. If only the fuse is replaced, it will blow again, so we fix the venting too.

What does your dryer vent cleaning include?

We clean the lint filter housing, the blower compartment and the exhaust port, the vent hose and the vent in the wall or ceiling, including condo vent screens. If the hose is too long or crushed, we replace it with a short one. Then we run the dryer and check the airflow.

Do you give a quote before starting?

Yes. We check the dryer and the vent first and give you the price before any work starts. Our work comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and labour.
