Dryer Overheating: repair for Toronto homes and condos
We fix dryers that stop heating, take too long, make noise, overheat, smell hot or will not start. Common work includes thermal fuses, heating elements, thermostats, belts, rollers and pulleys, motors, control boards, and cleaning the vent all the way to the wall.
Most dryer faults start with airflow, so we check the vent, the lint housing and the blower on every call and fix the cause, not just the symptom.
What causes it
A dryer that runs too hot is a safety problem before it is a laundry problem. These are the causes we find in Toronto:
The heat has nowhere to go. The drum, the clothes and the cabinet get hotter and hotter until the high-limit thermostat or the thermal fuse cuts the heat.
A hose squeezed behind the dryer or full of condensation water traps the heat. On our Etobicoke job the hose had filled with water.
Lint on the heater coil and in the blower wheel cuts airflow and can scorch. This is also where dryer fires start.
The thermostat that should switch the heater off keeps it on. The dryer runs far too hot even with clear venting.
The dryer never senses "dry" and keeps heating a finished load.
Thin foil or plastic hose that has collapsed, or a vent run with too many bends, restricts airflow permanently.

Octopus Royal uses in-house technicians only - no subcontractors, no commission-based pressure, and no unnecessary upselling.
We find why a dryer is cold, slow, loud or hot before it costs you a new one.
Quick checks before you call
- Stop using the dryer until it has been checked: overheating is how dryer fires start.
- Feel the outside vent flap while the dryer runs: little or no air means a blockage.
- Look behind the dryer for a crushed or kinked hose.
- If clothes are hot but still damp at the end, the problem is airflow, not the thermostat.
Overheating is the one dryer symptom we ask you not to ignore. Call or text (647) 286-1327 and we will clear the venting, test the thermostats and make sure the heat has a way out.
Dryer Overheating in Toronto: FAQ
Why is my dryer getting too hot?
Almost always restricted airflow: a blocked vent, a crushed hose or lint inside the dryer. Less often a stuck cycling thermostat that never switches the heater off.
Is an overheating dryer dangerous?
Yes. Lint plus trapped heat is the recipe for a dryer fire. Stop using it until the vent and the inside of the dryer have been cleaned and the thermostats checked.
My dryer shuts off mid-cycle and smells hot. Why?
The high-limit thermostat is cutting the heat to protect the dryer. Each time it trips you are one step closer to the thermal fuse blowing, which leaves you with no heat at all.
What is included in an overheating dryer repair?
Cleaning the vent hose and the vent in the wall or ceiling, the lint filter housing, the blower and the heater box, replacing a crushed hose with a short one, and testing the thermostats and the fuse.
How much does it cost?
The $85 service call covers the diagnosis and you get the full price before any work. If it is a vent cleaning plus a thermostat or fuse, we quote both together; the $85 is waived with the repair.
